We visited their factory in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The factory produces LABSA, which is a raw material that is used to make detergent, and has also recently began spray-drying. There we noticed a few improvements that could be made which would benefit the environment. Firstly, we saw water wastage which could easily be prevented. Water was overflowing from the cooler at a low but steady rate of 5 litres per hour(estimate). Since the plat is running 24 hours a day this could potentially lead to wastage of 120 litres a day and 3600 litres a month. The solution to this was a lower water pressure in the cooler and constant monitoring of the water level. Secondly, a raw material used to produce LABSA is sulphur in solid form. Prolonged exposure to this can cause dermatitus, lung irritation and eye inflammation. For this gloves and goggles were provided. We also talked to the workers about this and and asked for any other problems or inputs they might have. Solar energy usage was also suggested to lower their electricity costs.
